Wine for Asia 2006

Action is about to begin in Singapore where the 4th edition of Wine For Asia starts on  Nov-2-4. The Show has several added features apart from an increased number  of wine producers and distributors taking part in the Show.

Wine For Asia (WFA) is a leading international wine trade exhibition with a strong focus on the Asian markets. This year, the event will see an increase of 20% in the number of wineries represented. There will be 450 wineries coming not only from the traditional countries like Australia, Chile, France, Italy, New Zealand and South Africa but also from up and coming wine countries like Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Romania, India and China. Significantly, last year due to the efforts of Delhi Wine Club and its associates, Indian Wine Academy an Indian pavilion was erected for the first time in an international wine show.

WFA 2006 will take on a special theme of  “New worlds - Old worlds: Divergence or Convergence”. This has attracted much interest from the wine fraternity. The well-known Australian wine writer and critic, Mr James Halliday will be present to lead this discussion and share with the visitors his views on the current wine trends and developments.

Singapore Polytechnic, a leading Singapore tertiary institution will be organizing a 2-day intensive course on “ Certificate of Performance in International Wine Import ”. Participating lecturers are experts in their own fields. They include Jeremy Oliver, wine writer ( Australia ), Kirk Bauer, oenologist ( Germany ), Graham Hayward, advisor Foster Wine Group and more. WFA is offering 50% discounts  for wine importers, distributors and members of Delhi Wine Club to attend this course.

At WFA, you will be able to reach out to the winning wines that have been identified by world's renowned wine challenges – the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) and MUNDUSvini World Award. WFA's Wine Style Asia Award (WSAA) will also present quality wines that are destined for the Asian markets. DWWA Master Classes, German First Growths' Master Classes and WSAA Master Classes will be conducted for international buyers.

This year's seminar topics aim to look at the buyer's side of the wine equation. They include:

  • Surviving in the competitive Asian wine markets

  • Bridging the gap between Wine Importers and Exporters

A new feature known as Asian Wine Palate Index has been added this year. This is a value-add from WFA to give both the wine importers and exporters a general understanding of the current Asian preferences in terms of wine styles. This is very helpful to importers who would like to have a second opinion when they make wine purchase choices.

Wine Safari Familiarisation Tour continues from last year. This is a signature event of WFA which I enjoyed very much last year. This tour gives the participants an opportunity to understand the wine lifestyle in Singapore. This is especially useful for those who wish to understand the latest trends in wine consumption.

Delhi Wine Club is an official supporter of the event. Following are some of our views as expressed to a magazine :
