Chandon Chants in Delhi Too

Dec 19: After launching in Mumbai in October, Moët Hennessy has announced today the launch of its sparkling wine – Chandon, in New Delhi too. It is the first release from Moët Hennessy Estates and Wines to be produced in India for the domestic market with both the variants: Chandon Brut and Chandon Brut Rosé being produced from grapes from Nashik Region

Many had started saying it was already available in Delhi while others had said that it would be available from April 2014 when the new registrations would be made. However, Bruno Yvon, the President of the Indian operations had clarified to delWine that the registration was in process and it would be released in November. The Press Release confirms the launch now even though it is a couple of weeks later than expected and the company may have lost a good amount of business during Diwali and the heavy marriage season when sparkling wines usually fly and not crawl like the rest of the year.

Chandon Brut is made from Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Chandon Brut Rosé is made from Shiraz and Pinot Noir. The wines will retail at INR 1,200 for Chandon Brut and INR 1,400 for Chandon Brut Rosé, and will be available at select wine retailers, hotels, restaurants and bars in the city.

Chandon has been created by Moët Hennessy Estates & Wines’ team of international and local wine-makers and viticulturists, closely working with grape growers from the Nashik region and produced at the York winery in Nashik by using the “méthode traditionelle” with the second fermentation in the bottled as is being done by Sula, Grover Zampa and Fratelli.

Through the launch, Chandon reiterates Moët Hennessy’s commitment to India, its faith in developing local excellence and the company’s belief in the role it can play in transforming the nascent wine market and it has been a step ahead than in China where the project is under implementation too. It is usually expected that Chandon will open up the market for sparkling wines in India.
