Many friends and folks corner me at gatherings and want to know exactly which foreign wines to pick up from a retail shop, admitting they don't know anything about wine but still love to drink or serve it in their homes - Subhash Arora.
delWine has selected a bouquet of 10 wines- 5 each of reds and whites, from different regions, that are easily available duty paid in the Delhi Retail. The DSIDC shop behind Savitri Cinema, Greater Kailash II stocks these wines. We have benchmarked this shop as it stores wines properly and many of our subscribers have visited the place on our recommendation and seem to be happy. They are perhaps available in other stores too.
These wines are also available in Mumbai but are generally more expensive due to higher local taxes. For instance, Yellow Tail Shiraz selling in Delhi for Rs.950 in Delhi sells for Rs.1150 at Shah Wines, in Mumbai.
We shall add or subtract from this list as more wines are available and we are able to taste more. The list is not exhaustive but is meant as a guide for our subscribers who trust our recommendations. The criterion of selection is price and value offered by the wines. Majority of people cap their budget for a bottle of imported wine at Rs.1000-1100. So we have selected the wines selling at less than Rs.1100.
We have avoided low end table wines and will continue to do so. Vintages are not mentioned as they are not provided in their list, which is a pity. We shall detail each wine in different forthcoming issues. Some have already been written about in the previous editions.
